Offer System vs. Marketplace

Learn how the Offer System and Marketplace differ, when to use each, and how they work so you can choose the right approach for your goals

Musosoup gives curators two distinct ways to work with artists: the Offer System and the Marketplace. Both approaches allow you to earn money for your coverage and promotional work, but they operate differently and suit different working styles and goals.

Understanding how each one works helps you use the platform more strategically and find the right balance for your publication.

The Offer System

The Offer System is a proactive approach. You browse artist submissions, listen to releases, and reach out directly to artists whose music you want to support.

When you find a release you genuinely like, you save the submission and send the artist an offer. This offer includes a bundle outlining the coverage or promotional activity you'll deliver, a free alternative, and a personalised introductory message explaining why you want to work with them.

The artist then reviews your offer and decides whether to accept or decline. If they accept, they complete payment and you deliver the agreed coverage within the timeframe you defined.

The Offer System works best when you:

  • Want to be selective and approach only artists you genuinely believe in
  • Prefer to initiate relationships rather than wait for inbound requests
  • Want to increase your activity on the platform
  • Are looking to build direct, personal relationships with artists

The Marketplace

The Marketplace is a passive approach. Instead of reaching out to artists, you list your promotions publicly and let artists come to you.

Artists browsing the Marketplace can discover your publication, review your bundles and pricing, and submit a request the coverage from you. When a request comes in, you review the artist and their release and decide whether to accept or decline. If you accept, the artist completes payment and you deliver the coverage as agreed.

Your Marketplace listings also appear on your public curator and publication profiles, giving artists a clear picture of everything you offer in one place.

The Marketplace works best when you:

  • Want a stream of inbound requests without proactive outreach
  • Want to attract artists who are actively searching for coverage in your niche
  • Are looking to scale activity without spending time browsing submissions

The Marketplace remains open to artists even after their campaign has finished. This keeps them connected with you on the platform for ongoing coverage, rather than only returning when they have a new release. Artists can request your services at any time, making the Marketplace a valuable tool for building longer-term relationships beyond individual campaign cycles.

Using both together

The Offer System and Marketplace are not mutually exclusive. Most successful curators on Musosoup use both.

Your Marketplace listings also support your Offer System activity. When making an offer, including a link to your curator or publication profile in your introductory message allows artists to see your full range of services, which can increase trust and acceptance rates.

Which should you focus on first?

If you're new to Musosoup, starting with the Offer System is recommended. It gives you direct control over the music you cover, helps you build your first artist relationships, and allows you to test different bundles and messaging.

Both approaches are built around the same principle: connecting curators who care about music with artists who deserve coverage. Whether you're reaching out or being approached, the quality of your promotions, the clarity of your communication, and the reliability of your delivery are what make the difference.
